Food Fight OR Chemical Warfare?

Originally this post started off on Facebook as a simply mention, then rant, then migrated over here to my blog because I felt more people should be reached and that I hope you will be so motivated for a diet cleaning.

This is VERY interesting. Here's our discussion:

Me: They gave out Jello Pudding Cups to all the kids at church today and Brayden didn't accept it. He went around telling all the kids it was sugars, chemicals, and that it would make them sick. I'm a proud Papa. :) _____________

Then a couple friends mentioned that he'll have some explaining to do when the other kids get served processed crap for lunch in school and he brings real food with him.

I said: Good! And I'm sure they'll want some of his when he's eating sushi, zucchini/ squash spaghetti and grass fed meat balls, grain-free pizza, vegetable casserole, and lots and lots more with so many colors a rainbow would be jealous. :) _____________

Then a Facebook Friend actually asked, probably joking of course due to the nature of our discussion, if he could have the pudding cup that was intended to go to Brayden.

I said: NO you can't have the one they were going to give him. I don't poison my friends. In fact my 5 year old niece was there and had one in her hand when she came out. I swiped it out of her hands, passed it off to Brayden and he went and tossed it in the trash. We then told her that we don't eat things like that unless you don't care about getting sick, gaining fat on our tummies, and dying sooner than we should.

She, like most everyone else who consumes such food-like substances, was so fixated on "but I like it and it's yummy" that she was upset. TOO BAD!!! I see myself as a hero for her today because that's one less bit of crap that will be going into her body.

Some of my Facebook Friends then commented on how Brayden's lunch sounds soooo good and that they wish that more schools would serve healthier choices to the kids. Well here's the bottom line: Processed food-like substances is super cheap. Plain and simply why they do it... and frankly it's too bad that it has to be like that. Every day, every meal, every bit is poisoning whoever consumes it, but all they care about is filling bellies as inexpensively as they could. _____________

In case you are wondering just why I am so fanatical about what goes into my son's, my own, and my wife's body; here are the ingredients for that particular product:

Skim[pasteurized] Milk, Water, Sugar, Modified Food Starch, Cocoa Processed with Alkali, contains Less than 1% of Cornstarch, Salt, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate (for Smooth Texture)Sodium Alginate, Calcium Phosphate, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Artificial Color, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D.

Let me as you, anything in there jump out at you and MAKE you want to eat that "yummy" LOOKING Jello pudding cup? Hmmm... really? ______________

Nothing will happen unless people become educated on exactly what we are putting in our bodies.

There's a quick and easy litmus test that I like to use: If you cannot go out and hunt it, gather it, pick it, and with minimal processing consume it then don't eat it.

The ONLY way this will work to tell them that we don't want this poison is that we must fight the corn and soy lobbyists in Washington. YES it does go that direction whether you want to believe it or not. Will it ever end?

Another one of my Facebook friends posted this the other day and it really is scary to see the direction big food industry is and is continuing to go.

Synergy Nutrition Recipe: Meatza

I've been talking about this one for a while with my clients, on Facebook when I first posted the pics, Twitter, etc. and I must say that it is probably one of THE BEST dishes I have ever put in my mouth. Seriously I don't think I want to eat traditional pizza as we know it ever again after tasting and experiencing this delectable.  So now, without further ado, I give you one of my Finest Eating Pleasures: Meatza.  Oh and by the way, this is a certified primal food and 100% grainfree. Enjoy!

Source: Justin Owings Blog Thanks Justin! :)

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Use a 12x17 rectangular pan or 2 cooking stones as seen in my pictures.  If you don't have the cooking stones you can use any pan, but it is best if it has raised edges.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the following ingredients together:
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (or Parm-Romano blend)
    • 1 tsp caraway seeds
    • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 tsp oregano
    • 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic or 1 tsp of garlic powder

Once you get this mixture all set up put it to the side for now.

  1. In a large bowl mix together 2 lbs. grass-fed ground beef and 2 eggs.  Next toss in your seasoning mix.
  2. Make sure you do this in the exact order because the egg will be really runny, as eggs are, and can cause theseasoning mix to clump together.  This is precisely why we need to pre-mix the seasonings. Ok next, since your hands are all covered in the beef at this point, all you have to do is just pout in the seasonings.
  3. Take the mix of beef and plop it onto your pan or baking stone and flatten it out. Note: You should be able to just about cover a 12x17 pan with the mixture or you can make 2 smaller round pizzas as displayed in the picture.
  4. With your oven pre-heated, throw it in there for about 10 minutes.

While it's in the oven the best thing to do during your wait is to sauté up your chosen toppings.  You can do a variety of peppers, mushrooms, onions, or anything else that sounds good.  We used a tri-color blend of peppers for one and then for our other one we tossed on spinach, artichoke hearts, and portabello mushrooms.  Also the best and healthiest means of sautéing is with unrefined Coconut oil (which is a medium chain fat that is extremely health beneficial for you in that it will directly help you lose stored fat and is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal) or pasture butter from grass-fed cows. You can get that at Whole Foods, Fruitful Yield, Woodman's, Sprouts, and most stores like that.

Once your 10 minute wait is done, take the crust out of the oven and then set the oven to Broil which will only take a few minutes at this point cause the oven is already hot.

Once you see your "crust" for the first time you'll notice the size has shrunk a bit and that some excess fat has collected. Just drain off the fat to keep the crust less slippery for your toppings. You can even pat it down with a paper towel before putting on the toppings.

Ok so after the crust is done and prepared ready for toppings, toss em on.  For the red sauce I like to use organic, low sodium spaghetti sauce as a base for my toppings and then a toss on a nice thick layer of shredded raw cheddar cheese.

When the broiler heats up, toss the Meatza back in the oven until the cheese is done. Keep a VERY close eye on it at this point cause it won't be long at all. After it's done, sit back, savor your first bite, and enjoy with good company of friends and family! Oh and take a pic and post it on Facebook and my comment section below to tell me how it was. :)

Some FAQ's Of Eating Healthy

One of my personal friends emailed me the other day and had some really great questions. I'd like to share with you a part of our conversation cause I think it will really benefit all of my readers.

I have been researching the cancer rates in other countries and have found that Asia and some European countries (Spain and Greece) are among the lowest. So…what is the link here???

Asia consumes a lot of fish, fruit, veggies and lots of RICE! Not to mention  green tea.

Greece and Europe consume a lot of VEGGIES, FISH and Cheese and olive oil. I for one LOVE Greek food (my step dad is Greek). I have learned to make spinach pie which consists of feta cheese, spinach and philo leaves.  I also love to make Greek Potatoes and what I call Greek burgers ( this combines beef, feta, red pepper, and kalmata olives.)

What’s ur take on this? Can you still eat this stuff and be healthy?

Mediterranean diets are awesome and I love them. Asian cultures are actually very good on paper. The rice they consume is a grain yes; however that is about the ONLY grain they consume and it is gluten free as well. It is digested a bit differently than most all other grains. Doesn't make it great, but just a better alternative. Additionally they are also much more laborous in these countries. They are more physical all day long, walk A LOT, and don't turn to being couch potatoes like we do here in the U.S.
The coastal Asians are much more apt to be healthier than their inner-city and suburban counterparts due to the city having all the food accesses as we get in our own environment.
What you described in your email is pretty much a grain-free diet outside of the rice, but as I mentioned there are reasons for that.  If your diet consists of fruits, veggies, and high healthy fat proteins such as grassfed beef, full fat cheeses (unpasteurized of course), whole eggs from cage free chickens on veg diets, raw nuts/seeds, wild caught fish (farm raised are fed grains and contain almost 80% less healthy fats than the wild caught) you will be amazingly healthy.

Since chicken(and any poultry) is one of the worst things to eat due to it NEEDING to be cooked to a minimum of 160 degrees prior to conceiving consumption as well as when it is cooked it becomes carcinogenic due to the heating process and who would want to eat chicken raw (yuck!), pasta (especially, especially wheat), any grains whatsoever (source: are extremely, extremely unhealthy... you would be eliminating toxic and digestively abrasive things from your diet and therefore lifestyle. Immediate positive changes would occur.

Outside of that I'm not saying to be 100% raw. Somewhere in the range of 80-85% raw is great. You can eat meat and cheese. In fact I eat grassfed beef 2-3 times a week. Grassfed beef can have more omega-3's than fish and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is a very healthy fat for eliminating excess body fat and contributes to brain function as well. As cheese goes, well eat your fill. In fact I eat at least a block or block and a half a night. It is always full-fat, raw or unpasteurized dairy only so that the enzymes, proteins, and good bacteria are alive. If you eat pasteurized or dead dairy you are promoting all sorts of health issues, some you might be aware of and others you might not, that will be immediately removed when eliminating pasteurized dairy. Our email conversation continued:
Ok Bob…. Where can you get the rice the Asians use- the gluten free one? Where can you get the eggs you have referenced, do you have any good Mediterranean recipes, and finally what type of fish do you recommend consuming. (Oh yeah, how do you feel about potatoes? My fav are sweet potatoes cause they're higher in their vitamin content.)

Here's my quick answers:
All rice, as far as I've seen, is gluten free.
Eggs: any store these days has them, but we get them at Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Just make sure they are 3 things: organic, cage free, and fed vegetarian diets. The cartons will say all those things. Fertile eggs are also great. FYI: egg shell color has not bearing on what is inside. The inside is all the same
Recipes: My book will be coming out soon and have a bunch in it alongside my take on how, when, & what we should be eating ongoing. I also post recipes and pics on my Facebook profile a few times a week and I hand out recipes to all my clients ongoing.
Potatoes are fine as long as you don't eat them all the time due to the starch. White and red are part of the nightshade family alongside tomatoes, eggplant, all peppers, etc. They are pro-inflammatory due to a natural chemical in them. Eat them very sparingly. Sweet potatoes and yams are not of the nightshades and are fine, but again- due to the starch- sparingly is best. Vitamins are in a lot of berries much more prevalent than sweet potatoes.

Here's some food for thought that I heard from my buddy, and fellow IKFF Kettlebell Teacher, Sincere Hogan... Always run from the "4 Little White Devils".
1. Sugar
2. Table Salt (sea salt is fine)
3. White Flour and other grains (coconut and almond flour is perfect)
4. Pasteurized Dairy
Eliminate those and you will be in very, very good health. I'd call it amazing health... all the time. Done and done.

Does Red Meat Cause Cancer?

Does Red Meat Cause Cancer, Heart Disease and Eternal Damnation in Hell?

Earlier this week every major news organization published an article on a recent study that was published Monday in Archives of Internal Medicine. A research team led by Rashmi Sinha, Ph.D., from the National Cancer Institute looked at more than 500,000 people aged 50 to 71 and came to the conclusion that red meat causes cancer, heart disease and if we avoid it, we will live longer.
Headlines read ‘Want to live longer? Cut back on red meat’ and ‘Premature death from red meat’ and other similar sensational titles.

You want to know the real deal with red meat?

The truth is this — If you want to avoid illness, disease and live a long robust life, you may not need to cut back on red meat. You may, however, need to cut back on TV and consider giving yourself a detox from mainstream news sources. You also need the ability to think for yourself and not believe everything you read.

Seriously, you do need to understand some FACTS about red meat which were not covered in ANY of the articles I saw.

You also need to understand a few simple TRUTHS that were completely ignored by this massive study that created more mass confusion than anything else.

I’m Glad I’m Not an Oscar Meyer Weiner

The red meat in the study included all types of beef and pork (I thought pork was ‘the other white meat’?), bacon, cold cuts, ham, sausage, hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, as well as meat in pizza, chili, lasagna and stew.

So I’m going to drop some serious nutritional knowledge bombs on this report and give you solutions so you can eat what we are designed to eat, support your local economy, promote a healthy planet and avoid disease.

Chemicals and Cancer

The first thing I noticed in almost every news report was that they ignored the fact that processed meats are made with chemicals, including sodium nitrate or nitrite, a preservative, flavor and color enhancer that’s also used in fertilizer. Nitrates, along with excess table salt and smoking, extend the shelf-life of these crap products so they last longer in 7-11’s, truck stops and other fine dining establishments that are frequented by many discerning Americans.

When these processed foods are heated, the protein breaks down and combines with nitrites to form compounds known as nitrosamines. There are many different types of nitrosamines, most of which are known carcinogens. Nitrosamines promote the growth of various cancers, including colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Solution: The real issue here is the type of meat. Do not eat commercially processed meats. They are not fit for human consumption.

If you cant take the heat…

Cooking meat at high temperatures (especially when frying, broiling and barbecuing) produces heterocyclic amines as well as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, the compounds found on charred food, both are known carcinogens.  The longer the meat is cooked and the higher the temperature, the more of these compounds are produced

Also, what few people realize are some other problems associated with commercially produced processed meats. The FDA has approved a potent mixture of six bacteria-killing viruses designed to be sprayed on these ready-to-eat meat and poultry products.

Although many people falsely believe this is a good idea – to prevent disease - they fail to realize the truth: processed meat manufacturers should NOT BE PRODUCING bacteria-laden meat that needs to be purified with viruses. How about addressing the problem at its source?

Solution: Cook foods as little as possible. This does not mean you should go out and become a raw food vegan. Eat grass fed meat and eat it as rare as possible. Support local, small family farms that are healthy, clean & safe and produce high quality food that is superior to commercially produced food.

The Real Deal on Red Meat

The main issue in this report is the FAILURE to distinguish between grass fed meat and grain fed, factory farmed, drugged up animals, living in unnatural conditions that make them sick so they have to be drugged up which makes them sicker and since they are eating grains, they get fat and develop an unhealthy fatty acid ratio (among many other serious problems) which make them unfit for human consumption and oh yeah, carcinogenic when eaten.

Cattle are designed to eat grass, not grains. When you feed grains to cattle, they get fat and sick. When humans eat sick animals, they get fat and sick. Pretty simple formula.
When cows eat grass and freely graze, they are healthy. This is called ‘nature’. It’s a perfect system and worked without a hitch until the turn of the century. Once we started using chemicals for farming and feeding grains to cows and confined them into dirty feed lots with little (or no) exposure to grass and sunshine and started drugging them up, we ran into some very serious health problems.

Grass Fed vs. Grain Fed

Grass fed meat has less total fat, less saturated fat, less cholesterol and fewer calories. It has 400% more vitamins A and E, vitamin C, omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).
Grass fed beef is the richest known source of CLA. With 300 - 400% more CLA than grain fed animals, CLA is a potent cancer fighter that also reduces body fat, increases metabolic rate, enhances muscle growth, lowers cholesterol and triglycerides, lowers insulin resistance, reduces food-induced allergic reactions as well as enhances the immune system.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the difference between these two types of cattle farming. One produces meat that is healthy and the other produces food that is deadly. One preserves the environment while the other destroys it.

Alpha & Omega

Grain fed beef has higher levels of omega-6 fat, which may promote heart disease, and less omega-3 fat, which is beneficial for heart health.

Grass fed beef has higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for normal growth, brain function, reduced body fat and have been proven to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer, depression, arthritis, allergies, auto-immune disorders, obesity and diabetes.

Research has revealed that too much omega-6 in the diet creates imbalances result in inflammation, high blood pressure, irritation of the digestive tract, depressed immunity, sterility, cell proliferation, blood clots, cancer and weight gain.

If you’re eating a diet high in omega-6 fats, you could be vulnerable to prostate, colorectal and breast cancers.

For millions of years up until the end of World War II, omega-3 and omega-6 ratios in our diet were in favor of omega-3s (1:1 - 1:2). Now, that ratio is closer to 25:1.

Around the turn of the century, heart attacks were rare. Today, heart disease is the number one killer.

Simply look at all the grain fed animals we are eating along with the consumption of vegetable oils (high in omega 6) and the solution is simple. Do not eat commercially produced meat and avoid vegetable oils.

‘Life in all its fullness is Mother Nature obeyed.”

Weston A Price

Is Your Brain on Drugs?

Grain fed cattle are injected with growth hormones, antibiotics, vaccines and other drugs. Grass fed cattle got the straight edge - they are drug free.

Grass fed farming does not use fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides and other dangerous chemicals. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60% of herbicides, 90% of fungicides and 30% of insecticides to be carcinogenic.

Pesticides are neurotoxic, disrupt the endocrine system, carcinogenic and immune suppressive. Pesticide exposure may also affect male reproductive function and has been linked to miscarriages in women.

E. coli, mad cow or foot and mouth is much less of a concern with naturally raised grass fed cows. These are issues stemming from dirty, overcrowded confined feedlots.

Solution: Start your own farm or choose grass fed & organic food.

4 Day Rotation Diet

The first thing I thought of when I read the report is ‘Who eats like this everyday?’

Apparently, millions of Americans do. You would have to be nuts to eat this type of diet on a daily basis.

Nobody should eat the same thing everyday, especially not crappy processed meat.

Solution: Rotate your protein sources every four days. Choose grass fed and organic meats and don’t be a wiener - never eat commercially processed meat.

Also, not everyone should be eating red meat as often as other people should.

We are all unique and have different requirements for food. Some people (we call ‘Protein Types’) require more red meats and can’t tolerate carbs so well.

Others (called ‘Carb Types’) require leaner (white) meats and can tolerate carbs much better.

Then there are people like me, who fall in the middle and have a ‘Mixed Type’ of metabolism.

Solution: Eat according to your metabolic type.

The Data Was Collected How?

The study looked at people aged 50 to 71 and relied on self reporting.
Memory recall for Americans aged 50 – 71? Are you kidding me?

Now I know some people may be offended by this comment, but seriously, can we really trust Americans in that age bracket about what they are eating? From my professional experience, you can not trust food memory of people in ANY age bracket. Most Americans I have met, know nothing about nutrition, health and food is simply not priority for them…until they get sick or diseased and then they seem to make it a priority.

Asking people to recall what they ate is not reliable for most people – at any age. Most people
underestimate how much they eat and since almost every unhealthy person has a emotional issue tied to food, there is certain to be some unreliable reporting and false reporting. I know this for a FACT and do not need any scientific research to prove this to me or anyone else.

And how many Americans that age have sharp memories especially about something that is not a priority for them?

Solution: Eat grass fed meats as the saturated fat and omega 3 fatty acids supprt optimal brain function & focus.

Nature is Perfect - Industrialized Farming is Flawed

Commercial, industrialized animal farming and meat processors produce sick animals and inferior, disgusting products that make people sick and cause cancer.

Grass fed meat – when kept raw or as rare as possible, is very healthy.

It has sustained human culture for close to 3 million years. Nature is perfect. It is ignorance of this fact that causes problems on both an individual health and global scale.  As soon as people wake up to the fact that nature cannot be beat, no matter how hard you try, and as soon as we start showing respect for this planet, its people and its resources, instead of trying to exploit every possible thing that modern man can get his greedy hands on without any thought of the consequences…the sooner more people will be happier, healthier and relatively free from cancer and heart disease like our ancestors were.

The study has many flaws and just so you know – THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. Almost daily.

Start your detox and learn the truth about real food. You will be healthier and happier and can avoid the diet & lifestyle diseases that are plaguing Americans (and other cultures who play follow the leader).
