I often get asked about how often people should train and can someone exercise every day. My members ask if they can come to my Synergy Kettlebell Training gyms 5 or 6 days a week. I definitely don't believe in exercising every day and not having a recovery day at all. Maybe a yoga day if you absolutely have to do something, but rest is good after a week's worth of hard workouts. Now of course we want to ensure you do not over-train so here are my suggestions.
The key is to vary your intensity. If you do this right you can certainly feel the steel of your Kettlebell on a much more regular basis each week.
You definitely do not want 5 or 6 days in a row when practicing rigorous intense exercise like we do in our Kettlebell classes, BUT if you perform cardio, Yoga Active Recovery, or Insanity classes you are going to support your fitness longevity.
Personally I train 6 days a week, taking off Sundays. Monday, Wed, Friday are Kettlebell and Tues, Thurs, Sat are my "cardio" days. For cardio days I typically run outside or do sprint intervals on the rower, treadmill, or trails with hills. The hills are sure a love hate relationship!
If you train Kettlebell 5 days a week it's fine IF you have a day in between and just don't make it all heavy and balls to the wall days. Know what I mean?
Example Week: Monday, Tues, Wed, Thurs or Fri off, and then Saturday train. That way you have 2 full recovery days and if you want to do like I do, toss in cardio on the day you take off from KB. Just don't go too hard so you are not over-training. Also choose a day where you train Kettlebell, but go lighter and easier. I would say if you are train Monday hard, Tuesday moderate, and Wed easier. Then take Thurs for cardio only and then KB on Fri and Sat. Friday can be moderate intensity and Saturday go hard since you'll be taking off Sunday for recovery.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions please leave me a comment below and I will respond to you.
